As producers Jennifer Lopez, Craig Zadan, and Neil Meron prepare to mount ‘Bye Bye Birdie Live!’ for NBC in 2017, the actor selected to play Albert Peterson opposite JLo’s Rosie is a significant choice.
You can’t have a conversation about casting Albert without considering John Stamos.
In addition to being a quality singer and actor, Stamos played Albert in the most recent Broadway production of ‘Bye Bye Birdie.’ (2009)
Stamos’ television career includes starring roles on ‘Full House,’ ‘ER,’ and ‘General Hospital.’ No stranger to the stage, Stamos starred on Broadway in ‘Cabaret,’ ‘Nine,’ and ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Even Trying.’
The only real concern with Stamos is that he has many of the qualities that make a good Conrad Birdie. It may be difficult to find a Birdie that is more Birdie than Stamos. But that is a very minor concern.
Stamos is very charismatic and works well with others. He could have great on-screen chemistry with JLo.
Overall Stamos rates high for the role of Albert.
