Casting for NBC’s live production of ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ starring Jennifer Lopez – expected to broadcast in December 2017- requires the right talent, looks, and abilities to bring the story to life.
Alec Baldwin started his career as a classic leading man on the television series ‘Knots Landing’ then in films like ‘The Hunt for Red October’ and ‘The Marrying Man.’ His performance in the romantic drama ‘The Cooler’ earned him a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
No stranger to the stage, Baldwin earned a Tony nomination for his starring role in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ on Broadway.
As Baldwin has aged he has reinvented himself as a comedic supporting player, most notably on the NBC television comedy ’30 Rock.’ Most recently he has struck a chord with audiences for his hilarious and spot on characterization of President-Elect Donald Trump on ‘Saturday Night Live.’
When it comes to casting JLo’s ‘Bye Bye Birdie’, Baldwin seems fantastically qualified to portray Harry MacKafee- the crotchety father of central character Kim MacKafee.
Not only is Baldwin a skilled actor who could do justice to the role and not be overshadowed by other stars in the cast, but he also has a strong relationship with NBC.
If producers Lopez, Neil Meron, and Craig Zadan really want to tickle the funny bone, they’d have Baldwin wear his Donald Trump wig while playing the role.
