When it comes to casting a star to play Albert opposite Jennifer Lopez’s Rosie in NBC’s ‘Bye Bye Birdie Live!’, executive producers JLo, Neil Meron, and Craig Zadan may do well to look at comedic actors who have distinguished themselves in both television and stage.
Sean Hayes is a hugely talent comedic actor best known for his Emmy-winning role on the NBC sitcom ‘Will & Grace.’ He also received four SAG Award, one American Comedy Award, and six Golden Globe nominations.
He has appeared in such films as ‘Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!’, ‘The Bucket List’, and ‘The Three Stooges.’ He earned a SAG nomination for his starring role as Jerry Lewis in the television movie ‘Martin and Lewis.’
Hayes clearly has a comedic style that works on television, which plays into his favor to landing the coveted role of Albert opposite Jennifer Lopez’s Rosie in NBC’s ‘Bye Bye Birdie Live!’.
Even further to the benefit of his candidacy to play Albert are his Broadway credits including ‘An Act of God’ and ‘Promises, Promises’. He earned a Tony nomination for his role in ‘Promises, Promises.’ He also played the Devil/Applegate in the New York City Center’s Encores! Production of ‘Damn Yankees.’
It also doesn’t hurt that he has a strong relationship with NBC stemming from his work on ‘Will & Grace’. It was recently announced that NBC has commissioned 10 episodes of a ‘Will & Grace’ revival.
